On June 2nd 2019 we had the sixth ‘Remembering Rudy Walk’, with around 90 friends, family and supporters joining in. As always, The Walk was held on the Sunday closest to Rudy’s birthday – June 4, this is one of the many days he is remembered and valued for the love he spread in his very short young life, to his family, friends and those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The Walk was the same route as the ones in the past, approximately three and a half miles, starting on the south bank of the River Thames, right under Westminster Bridge and ending after the iconic Tower Bridge.
This year the lunch following The Walk was hosted at Zizzi’s on St Katherine’s Dock, a spacious exclusive venue with excellent food.
At the lunch we launched the “THE rudy MISSION” and the new t-shirts were worn by everyone. The whole rebranding effort was done by a group of professionals who volunteered their time and applied their skills in creating a vibrant new look for the Foundation. We are extremely grateful to them and it was a great pleasure to have them join The Walk.
The team from the Institute of Cancer Research were present, as always, However Prof Chris Jones could not be there in person so he sent a recorded video to share with everyone, in which he announced the setting up of the Rudy A Menon Foundation PhD Student Scholarship, under his supervision, at ICR. In addition to the recorded message from Chris Jones, Dr Matt Clarke from Chris’ team shared a few words on the day. Matt is a Clinical Research Fellow and is currently completing his PhD. He was able to explain to the guests what it is like to undertake a PhD here at the ICR. Other members of Chris’ team, Sara, Diana, Nicola and Elisa also joined us for the walk and were very happy to chat to guests about the research.
Once again, the Raffle was a huge success, with wonderful prizes contributed from many of our beloved supporters. We sincerely thank them and are really humbled by their generosity.
The Cookbook – “A Punch Of Culinary Colours” which was launched late last year was part of the merchandise on sale, along with “THE rudy MISSION” bags and caps.
We are extremely grateful to all our supporters and donors, who have been constantly encouraging us and helping in so many ways to help us find a cure for Gliomatosis Cerebri.
