Remembering Rudy - The Walk 2021

2020 was challenging for everyone to say the least, and restrictions on large gatherings around the world made it difficult for the Foundation to fundraise. This year, in place of a physical walk together in London, the walk took place from May 4th to June 4th, individually, but as one, with the goal of collectively completing “A Walk Around the World for Rudy”.

On 4th June, Rudy’s birthday, the first “A Walk Around the World for Rudy” was completed. Over 330 people walked, danced and ran in memory of Rudy, with the objective of increasing awareness and fundraising for research into rare and inoperable forms of brain cancer such as Gliomatosis Cerebri.

Over the 32 days since the journey began, our team walked over 63 million steps collectively and travelled over 43,000km, smashing our target of walking around the world by an extra 3000km!

We know Rudy would have loved the friendly competitiveness that developed over the course of the month as well as the words, pictures and videos of encouragement shared by our walkers, which can still be found on the Foundation’s Instagram page.

A Walk Around the World for Rudy was wonderfully supported by a community of friends, family and colleagues who continue to support and encourage critical research (via the Rudy A Menon PhD Studentship) into rare and inoperable forms of brain cancer such as Gliomatosis Cerebri.

We hope that one day, this work will help change the prognosis for those diagnosed with Gliomatosis Cerebri, which is currently a fatal condition. With all your help, together we will make that difference.
